I opted to stay in the Kempinski but rest of the group decided to see Lake Assal. Brave people. Outside temperature registered at 60 degrees Celsius. 60 degrees! I have never heard of such temperature.
On the way to the lake run into the line of freight trucks. It becomes common nowadays. A one hour ride to the lake took three.
Lake Assal is French as Lake Salt. The third deepest salt lake in the world. Water temperature is at 105+ degree Fahrenheit. Warmer then your bath water.
Funny how salt resembles ice. Reminds me of Greenland but what a extreme opposite climate.
The only resource here is salt which does not worth much these days. Its only strength is its strategic location but local people does not seem to benefit from it. I wonder why Djibouti is not as prosperous as Hong Kong or Singapore or Dubai? The major aid they get is from UN's humanitarian grants.
Village.
