Day to Seethe Victoria Falls
Zambizie River is the forth largest river in Africa. The drop formation is between Zambia and Zimbabwe. The widest curtain of the falls in the world. Our hotel is by the Zambizie River above the falls. Temperature is around 35 Celsius. Hot and humid.
It so happens that September is the mid of the dry season. The water volume is about only thirty percent. The gorge we are seeing is overfilled with water after raining season (March through May). Seeing the walls of gorge is special too.
Jeffrey is looking for water and thinking " somebody must forgotten to pay the water bill".
A half an hour helicopter ride to fly over the falls. Get to see the aerial view of the falls. The young girl is our pilot from South Africa. She looks like only 20 years old but handled the helicopter effortlessly.
Dr. David Livingston was a missionary in the 1800s. He was the first western person who saw this great fall as he searched the source of Nile River. He named the falls "Victoria" honoring the British Queen.
Little did we know that just because this is the dry season, we get to swim in the "devil's pool". This is a natural rock walls above one small section of the falls. With guided life guard, we can swim in the pool and overlook from top of the wall if you are daring. Of course Jeffrey did and I chicken out for that. It was out of this world experience. Water is cool and refreshing and our life guard guided us every step of the way. Amazing activity.
By sunset, we took a 2 hour cruise for river Safari. Saw some African birds and croc in the river.
By night, after finishing this action packed day, pilots are being briefed for tomorrow's flight to South Africa at the Royal Livingston Hotel.
