Djibouti to Nairobi, Kenya ( 855 NM)
Morning temperature in Djibouti rises very fast. The prep at airport was torturous. We helped the Citation to reduce its weight burden by taking some luggages from them. Because the ground temperature is so high that it needs all the power to take off and less weight is better. Everyone is sweating like hell. I think we all lost some water weight today. Nairobi is the capital of Kenya, population nine million. From air, the city looks green and modern. The ground temperature here is much, much better.
We have no plan to stay at Nairobi. It looks like a city worth visiting. Next trip. We will connect to a transfer flight to Masai Mara Game Reserve by Safari Link. The 18 seater twin engine Otto will take 45 minutes to Bateleur camp at Masai Mara Game Reserve where we will stay for four nights. One passenger looked at six of us with pilot uniform and asked: "why do we need this many pilots to fly this small airplane?" We just reply, " You should feel very safe today".
Actually the reason why we did not fly PC 12 to Masai Mara is because there is just one air strip for airplane to pick up or drop off passenger. The gravel runway is too rough for our planes.
Camp personnel waited by the run way with welcome drink. Temperature is just perfect. Around 22 Celsius at 5 in the afternoon. We meet our game guide "Robert" who will show us the wildlife for the next 4 days. Robert is a native "Masai" who went to college in Nairobi majoring in Wildlife Study. Expect to learn a lot from him.
On the way from air strip to camp, we already seen some animals. The immense size of the flat grassland is stunning yet peaceful and quiet.
